Wow, we are heading into our final full week together! 🌞

3D Shapes in the Real World

In math this week, our young learners teamed up to explore the fascinating world of 3D shapes. We examined attributes like faces, edges, and vertices, and then made exciting real-world connections. One highlight was noticing how familiar objects and even architecture use these shapes. While looking at some castles from around the world, students spotted cylinderscones, and cubes in walls and buildings. We even looked across the globe to Egypt, where students were amazed by the impressive pyramids and their unique shape.

Sock Puppets with Personalities

In literacy, things got wildly imaginative! With help from Ms. Neeson, students created their very own fictional characters using sock puppets! They crafted quirky characters and gave them elaborate life stories, which they shared during a "talk show."

Later in the week, the students wrote about their new "friends," bringing their stories to life on paper.

 Garden

Gardening has become a much-loved recess choice, and even on the hottest days, many students eagerly picked up shovels and hoes. They dug, scooped, and planted with incredible focus and determination. The reward? A cooling spray from the hose!

Sorry this video is so long...

Storytelling, Shadows, and Shapes

In Literacy, students had a blast writing their own fictional stories. They took what they know about story elements —characters, settings, problems, and solutions—and then brought their imaginative tales to life creatively by using a shadow puppet theater! By combining our Science unit on Light with our storytelling skills, we created mini shadow shows that were pretty magical. Students explored how light and shadows work and created scenes that matched their stories. It was a beautiful blend of science and storytelling!

Meanwhile in Math, both our Kindergarten and First Grade learners kicked off new mini-units on 3-D shapes. To spark excitement, we combined our classes and went on a 3-D Shape Hunt outdoors. The students were amazed to discover that spheres, cubes, cones, and cylinders are all around us—in our classroom & the playground! It was a fun and interactive way to build foundational geometry skills while fostering a sense of wonder about the world. We will continue to explore these shapes this week.

**Our field trip is coming soon! On Thursday, June 12th we will be heading to Shelburne Farms.  If your child will need a bag lunch for that day, please respond this week so that I can inform our kitchen staff. **
